A link between past and future
As its name suggests, the Bourse du Commerce - François Pinault is housed in the former buildings of the Bourse du Commerce (Commodities Exchange). Deeply inscribed in the history of Paris, its oldest elements, such as the Medici Column, date back to the 16th century. The building, however, took on its characteristic rotunda shape during the 18th century and a little later acquired its iconic dome, which is now a listed historical monument. The French billionaire businessman François Pinault leased the building from the City of Paris and, with the expertise of the Japanese architect Tadao Andō, has created a rounded exhibition gallery within that is designed to display his contemporary art collection.
Temporary exhibitions
This new art space is not intended to house permanent exhibitions but to serve as a setting for the presentation of entire sections of the François Pinault collection. In the basement, a space is devoted to video and sound performances and will also provide a venue for various events and conferences.
