In October, the splendour of the Palais Garnier provides the perfect setting for unforgettable Parisian evenings. Just a few minutes’ walk from Hôtel Volney Opéra, two ballet programmes take centre stage throughout the month, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience this iconic monument in a different way.
The Story of Manon, a Great Narrative Ballet
Until October 30, 2026, the Palais Garnier presents The Story of Manon by Kenneth MacMillan. Inspired by the novel by Abbé Prévost, this ballet, created in 1974, tells the tragic love story of Manon and Des Grieux.
Set to music drawn from works by Jules Massenet, the ballet combines virtuosity, emotion and theatricality. Nicholas Georgiadis’s sets and costumes accompany this dramatic story of love, ambition and disillusionment.
October 15 will also mark a special moment in the season, as Étoile dancer Dorothée Gilbert gives her farewell performance in The Story of Manon.
Three Choreographers Come Together in Paysages Intérieurs
From October 11, the programme Paysages Intérieurs offers a different vision of dance. This new evening brings together three choreographers with distinctive artistic styles: Jean-Christophe Maillot, William Forsythe and Aszure Barton.
On October 16, the performance will be preceded by the traditional Défilé du Ballet, bringing together the artists of the Paris Opera Ballet School and the Paris Opera Ballet on the stage of the Palais Garnier.
An Evening at the Opera from Hôtel Volney
Located at 11 rue Volney, in Paris’s 2nd arrondissement, Hôtel Volney Opéra is ideally situated for reaching the Palais Garnier on foot.
Before the performance, enjoy a stroll around Place Vendôme and Avenue de l’Opéra. After the show, it is only a short walk back to the comfort of the hotel.
Combining ballet, heritage and Parisian elegance, October is the perfect time to enjoy an exceptional evening in the Opéra district.
