After a difficult period of lockdown and restrictions, the world of the arts is resuming its rightful place in the City of Light. The Hotel Volney Opéra welcomes you to its chic and modern setting in the 2nd arrondissement. Located in the centre of Paris, a few steps from the Place Vendôme and the Boulevard Haussmann, its position is ideal for convenient enjoyment of the French capital and its heritage. Here’s a selection of the must-see exhibitions to visit in Paris this autumn.
Comics and poetry at the Picasso Museum
The Musée Picasso de Paris is one of 10 European museums dedicated to one of the world’s most famous artists, Pablo Picasso. Currently, the museum is featuring two fascinating temporary exhibitions. Picasso and the Comic Strip is the first exhibition to explore the links between the work of the Spanish artist and the comics medium he loved. It shows how Picasso integrated certain aspects of comics iconography into his artistic production, and how the Spanish artist and his imagery have been depicted in the works of various comics creators. The second exhibition, entitled Picasso the Poet, demonstrates the place of poetic writing in the artist’s creative process and illuminates this relatively unknown aspect of his talents. These two exhibitions run until January 3rd, 2021.
The fashion photography of Man Ray at the Luxembourg Museum
A look at the work of the American visual artist Man Ray will take place in the exhibition space of the Palais du Luxembourg, focussing on the impact of this long-time Paris resident and contributor to the Surrealism movement on fashion photography between the wars. Man Ray’s first passion was painting, but he worked as a professional photographer for big names in the fashion world such as Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli. He took fashion photography to a whole new level and his influence is still felt today. The exhibition runs from September 23rd, 2020 to January 17th, 2021.
